School Health Assessment and Performance Evaluation System

School mental health teams can work together to assess their school mental health systems. Deciding on the best next step to improving these systems? The School Health Assessment and Performance Evaluation (SHAPE) System is a free, online platform that offers targeted resources to support the work of regional, state, district, and school-based staff seeking to implement sustainable interventions and services in schools. Read below to find out more about the SHAPE system.

Students

The SHAPE System was developed by the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH) to provide resources to support the quality improvement of school mental health systems, including evaluation measures such as the National School Mental Health Census and the School Mental Health Quality Assessment (SMH-QA).

How is it used?

School- and district-level teams can use these measures to document and monitor progress over time as they work to support and sustain implementation of comprehensive school mental health interventions and systems. Evaluation measures and resources provided in the SHAPE System seek to align school-based services within Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), assessing the comprehensiveness of their school-based supports while identifying areas of improvement in the following seven areas: Teaming, Needs Assessment/Resource Mapping, Screening, Mental Health Promotion, Early Intervention and Treatment, Funding and Sustainability, and Impact. In addition to this robust library of resources, the SHAPE system also provides guides for strategic planning, assessments of trauma-responsiveness, and more.
